  • When taking class at SYNB you will always feel welcomed as you are and learn a ton about the practice of Yoga. The teachers are intelligent and conscious in their words and movement and It’s clear they go deep in their own practice making it an inspiring environment to be around. It’s really the perfect studio for those who are new or experienced in the practice of Yoga and are looking for a down to earth environment to come learn and practice some Yoga. -Kristen

I started yoga some 15 years ago to improve my posture and there I met Juliet practicing alongside me, she didn’t say much. Soon she appeared as a teacher when one of my teachers took ill. She still didn’t say much, but what she did say invited me into a gentle, fruitful inquiry about how to be better and with amazing economy Juliet shared essential questions, possible answers, and pointed me toward finding my own understanding and answers. She shares everything she knows and is unpretentious and generous. There is not a waterfall of parrot-like chatter when she is teaching. There is a spirit of question and wonder, genuine and authentic.Today, the practice of yoga is, to me, about getting into a poetic space. A space where the whole is more than the sum of the parts, just as a poem is more than the sum of its words. As I look back and wonder what it is about Juliet that worked so well for me I realize it is her example of inquisitiveness, of treating experience as a metaphor, of really owning a yogic idea physical or cerebral, then exploring its implications and connections. Practicing with Juliet is an invitation to become a better person.- Saul

The teaches here plan each class purposefully, combining knowledge of yoga philosophy, breath work, anatomy and asanas. They are genuine, thoughtful, creative. Their cues are precise and deliberate.  Each class has a specific intention for the sequence.  After classes a School of Yoga New Bedford I am stronger and calmer, happily ready to face the rest of my day. -Laura

    TRAININGS:

The 200 hr YTT program at SYNB was everything I was looking for from a teacher training. It was organized in a way that was flexible for all (especially helpful during the 2020 COVID shutdowns), and covered a wide variety of topics. Juliet allowed plenty of space for group discussions, encouraging each of us to share our experiences and knowledge to supplement her teachings and that of guest instructors. The program was designed to meet you where you are in your relationship with yoga in practice, philosophy, and teaching methods. I came away with the knowledge and confidence to evolve from solo practitioner to teacher, and lifelong student. - Jess

I have now spent 2 years and 500 hours training with Juliet/School of Yoga NB. Simply put, Juliet’s trainings are smart. Her dedication and encouragement of studentship (continuing education even after becoming a teacher) make her offerings special. She prides herself on meeting the practitioners where they are at and leaves ample room for physical practice, lecture, debriefing, humor, and vulnerability. SYNB trainings are not cookie-cutter nor pretentious, they focus on pedagogy (the practice of teaching), finding your voice, commitment, and inquiry. Because Juliet is a form/alignment-based teacher, we get to pick apart poses and learn the anatomical actions needed to execute them. We do this by feeling it in our bodies and then by dissecting different ways to offer it to our students. On top of it, we learn history, philosophy, and various styles of yoga (restorative, prenatal, vinyasa, meditation). Overall, we are given the opportunity to internalize the information in a way that makes sense to us as individuals. This requires us to get curious not just about yoga but about ourselves. Because of this, I feel very confident in my teaching style. I have referred many students to the program and will continue to do so. - Amanda O

I found myself signing up for the 200 hour YTT at SYNB. I was nervous because I had never taken a class with Juliet and I was going to be spending 200 hours over the next few months with her and quite a few other women. All ages, all backgrounds, all different experiences—quickly learned how much knowledge Juliet had to share with us the fire and passion she has is what you should look for when looking for a YTT. Month by month she provided the space for us to learn practice laugh and cry and we learned how to effectively use our voices to communicate yoga poses to a room. We learned anatomy of the body , kinesiology, and the history of yoga.

We learned about different types of yoga: vinyasa restorative etc. from different trainers. Juliet needs everyone where they are at and provides them with the tools to do the same as a yoga teacher 10 out of 10 will always recommend Juliet and the YTT at School of Yoga New Bedford. Samantha

She doesn’t pretend that she has every single answer. She encourages you to engage. You don’t have to “be right.” You don’t have to already have a strong practice. If you go to yoga classes or even just do yoga by yourself at home and think “How the holy *#&) am I supposed to be able to do that pose?”, you should look into this training. She gives you the knowledge, the time to practice, the opportunity to ask questions and get familiar with the poses. She doesn’t expect us all to have the same bodies and abilities. And she sees how cool that is and how that can affect our practice.

I cannot say enough good things about her training. It’s so awesome that when it finished and she gave me the opportunity to continue training in her 300 course, I jumped at the opportunity!

If you are even a little interested, I encourage you to reach out. Try it. This training is not and never will be one size fits all. She is such a strong teacher who feels passionately about yoga and will meet you where you are. -Amanda L.

  • Our mission is to facilitate knowledge and conversation in and around the study of yoga. To be accessible to all and to sincerely respect the roots and culture of yoga. We aim to engineer, curate, and promote a practice that goes beyond the average everyday yoga class.

    Core Values

    Education
Information on yoga comes from personal experience as much as it does from history, research, and science.

The physical practice of asana can be optimal if the teacher has a greater understanding of the mechanics of the body and knows how to best express that to the student. We feel it is beneficial to promote patience for the study of yoga because it is a life long engagement.

We are teaching people yoga in a specific way using knowledge, accuracy, empathy, connection, and effective pedagogy.

    Communication
We are communicating to people in an informed way so that their process is clear to them and can be used in life. We value personal conversation and sincerity and the connections we forge as we show up to a practice.

    Leadership
Leading people by example. This example comes from years of experience in the field of teaching yoga. We are avid in our studentship as we maintain a steady and consistent yoga study and practice.
